The Bengal College of Engineering and Technology was set up by the SKS Educational and Social Trust in 2001 with an objective of imparting quality education in Engineering and Technology. The aim of the College has been to maintain a liaison with the industries on one hand and the premier engineering institutions of the region (like the IIT {Kharagpur}, NIT {Durgapur}, CMERI { Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute, Durgapur} , ISI {Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata}, Jadavpur University {Kolkata} ) on the other. The College is approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE-New Delhi), under Ministry of HRD, the Govt. of India and is Affiliated to West Bengal University of Technology (WBUT). It is recognised by the Govt. of West Bengal.

Today, its vast infrastructure includes latest teaching-learning system, well equipped labs, separate facilitated hostels for boys and girls, to name a few. Many high profile ministers and dignitaries have visited and praised the college campus and its infrastrucutre.

BCET displayed unmatched entrepreneurial talent by receiving the National Entrepreneurship Award for three consecutive times in a row, which ensures a special recognition for the entire Durgapur region in the entrepreneurial map of the nation. BCET has got the coveted NBA Accreditation for all of its eligible courses and this reflects the quality of eduction at this institution. For this achievement, BCET has been praised by the Government of West Bengal for achieving high standards in technical education.
